Post Graduate and Post Doctoral Research Funding: Spatial Change and City Planning

The South African Research Chair in Spatial Change and City Planning hosted by the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) as part of the South African Research Chairs Initiative.

The research funding allows for a number of Masters and Doctoral students and a Post Doctoral fellowship. Students must be supervised by a Wits academic in an appropriate discipline. The topics will be developed jointly by the student supervisor and Research Chair. They must address issues relating to the planning and development of large cities or city-regions in emerging economies (including within BRICS countries). Topics could relate to:
• Governance
• Economies
• Infrastructure and settlement
• Urban structure and form
